Whitley Whitley is a state listed heritage house and garden in the Southern Highlands of NSW, Australia. The design of the house, built in the early 1890’s, was heavily influenced by British traditions of the English Country House. The garden is an extensive parkland surrounded by layered hawthorn hedges which are kept trimmed all year round. The garden features include a nut orchard, a secret vegetable garden, a formal parterre flower garden with a gargoyle fountain, a cottage garden with carp pond, crab apple walk, a pink garden, massed bluebells under Silver Birch and significant mature trees. There is also an extensive native woodland. Situated on the north side of Mount Gingenbullen, the outlook from the garden to the surrounding countryside is one of rolling farmland on all sides with the town of Moss Vale in the distance. The garden is maintained by three full time gardeners as well as the owner/gardener Jenny Ferguson. The garden is opened as a charity fundraiser for two days in November each year and includes an art exhibition with sale of works by local artists. This exhibition is held in the stables. Garden Open Days This year the open days are Thursday 8th and Friday 9th November 2012. The gates open at 9.00am and close at 3.30pm. As it takes at least an hour to view the garden, it is recommended that you arrive no later than 2:30 pm. Admission is $10.
